How does it work?
The air cleaning process in the AeroCure 200

  • A prefilter cartridge first captures larger particles that ensures optimum efficiency of the system.
  • Internal ultraviolet light with a photolytic chamber eliminates viruses and bacteria while slowing down their travel time to ensure highest level of elimination.
  • The remaining particles, now inactivated, move through a medical grade HEPA filter to trap them from returning to the air.
  • Provides a pathogen elimination rate of 99-100%.
  • AeroCure 200 is better suited to smaller rooms like offices
Is there a warranty?

Yes, all products have a 5 year warranty

How safe are UVGI (ultraviolet germicidal irradiation) products?
  • Unlike many UVGI products currently available, AeroCure 200 and GermZone 100 have ultraviolet lamps contained within the units, so there is no exposure of ultraviolet light to people and therefore safe to use in occupied spaces.
  • UVGI lamps have been used for many decades in the healthcare industry. UVC treatment is a known disinfectant for air, water and nonporous surfaces.
What do health and safety/regulatory organizations say about using HEPA and UVGI to combat SARS-CoV-2?

Per the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), recommendations include:

  • Portable, free-standing high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters
  • Use UVGI
  • Only use air cleaners for which evidence of effectiveness and safety is clear

  • Yes, this technology has been tested by independent laboratories: RTI, NIOHIM and Battelle Institute. It has been tested with MS2, Mycobacterium tuberculosis and SARS-CoV-2. What is the maintenance on these units?

Maintenance will be dependent on the environment they are in, i.e., dust levels, etc. An Instruction Manual is provided with each unit.

  • Cleaning: wipe down exterior of units as needed with disinfectant wipes.
  • Prefilter Cartridge Replacements:
    • AeroCure 200: replace prefilter cartridge monthly.
    • GermZone 100: replace the filter approximately every 6 months.

Note: More frequent cartridge changes may be needed in high contamination areas.

 

  • HEPA Filter:
    • AeroCure 200: The HEPA filter will need replaced once per year.
    • GermZone 100: Not applicable.
  • UV Lamp Replacement:
    • AeroCure 200: replace approximately every 2 years.
    • GermZone 100: replace approximately every 2 years.

Air Changes per Hour (ACH)

A metric that tells how many times an HVAC device can fill up the full volume of a room with air. In the Guidelines for Environmental Infection Control in Health-Care Facilities (2003), the CDC specifies minimum ACH for the following:

  • Resident Room: 2 ACH from outdoor air
  • Resident Gathering Area: 4 ACH from outdoor air
  • Dining Room: 4 ACH with 2 from outdoor air
  • Activity Room: 4 ACH with 4 from outdoor air
  • Therapy Room: 6 ACH with 2 from outdoor air
  • Toilet Room: 10 ACH

Airborne Microorganisms

Commonly isolated airborne microorganisms were Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA), and Pseudomonas species. All are significant potential human pathogens. (Holcatova, 1993)

Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM)

A measure used in industrial hygiene and ventilation engineering. It describes the rate of flow of air volume into or out of a space. A standard measurement of airflow that indicates how many cubic feet of air pass by a stationary point in one minute. (Example: in a 15’ x 20’ room with 8’ ceilings, the total room volume is 2400 cubic feet. Assuming guidelines of 2 ACH, the room is receiving approximately 80 cubic feet per minute (cfm) of outdoor air.

High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA)

HEPA filter is a type of mechanical air filter; it works by forcing air through a fine mesh that traps harmful particles such as pollen, pet dander, dust mites, and tobacco smoke.

Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV)

Developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioner Engineers (ASHRAE). MERV values vary from 1 to 16. The higher the MERV value the more efficient the filter will be in trapping airborne particles.

Particulate Matter (PM)

The term for a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets found in the air. Some particles, such as dust, dirt, soot, or smoke, are large or dark enough to be seen with the naked eye. Others are so small they can only be detected using an electron microscope.

  • Fine sand:  90 microns
  • Strand of hair:  50 – 70 microns
  • Dust, pollen, mold: < 10 microns
  • Red blood cell: 7 microns
  • Organic compound: < 2.5 microns
  • Bacteria: 0.5 microns
  • Coronavirus: 0.06 – 0.14 microns
Ultraviolet C Radiation (UVC)

Ultraviolet C radiation has wavelengths from 200 to 290 nanometers.  Ultraviolet describes light with a wavelength that’s less than visible light, but longer than x-rays. UVC is a germicidal and can be used for disinfection. It works by disrupting the replication process of viruses and destroying the nucleic acid in bacteria.

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC)

Volatile organic compounds are gases that are emitted into the air from products or processes. Some are harmful by themselves, including some that cause cancer. In addition, they can react with other gases and form other air pollutants after they are in the air. Indoor sources of VOC include things like paint, carpeting, cleaners, disinfectants, gasoline, tobacco smoke, glues, etc.
